Tearing. Do you like to tear paper? I do for certain looks. I did my whole honeymoon section of my album with torn edges! By the end of the scrapbook retreat my fingers were so very sore!!
These are just 2 partial samples. I had color blocked my whole wedding album section so I figured I should color block my honeymoon section as well. Um, yeah…since we went on a cruise, the tearing of the edges would work great because water is never a completely flat surface. Imagine doing 23 pages of tearing EVERYTHING!! Oh, my! Yes, sore fingers for a few days after that 3 day retreat! Yikes!
This post, however, is not about my wedding/honeymoon album…that’s just the only time I have used tearing in such an extreme case. This post is to showcase a card I did for another challenge…a Tic-Tac Toe challenge with tearing. I haven’t done many of those, but I was inspired for this one. And, I am thinking I may do more, tearing that is! And see? They have sea/ocean on the same line as tearing…
This is the Tic-Tac-Toe board for Try Stampin’ On Tuesday. I used the far right column…tearing, blue, and die cut. This challenge is until July 29th, if you want to give it a go for yourself!
I also used a sketch challenge for this card from Catch the Bug Challenge Blog – Sketchy Stella…this one took me some time to figure out what I wanted to do…and it is also still running if you want to go check it out, deadline is August 1st.
So, here is my card. This DSP is called Garden Impressions and I used 3 different ones. This is one of the DSP sale packs that I told you about in my last post. Buy 3 Get 1 FREE. It is 6×6 paper, also double sided and you get 4 of each design. I used Pacific Point card stock as my base, Melon Mambo as one of the torn pieces, Daffodil Delight for the sentiment and the flame of my candle. I backed up my candle stick with Whisper White card stock to help it stand out a bit. I tore the flame out of the Daffodil Delight because flames just can’t have a straight edge, right?! The balloons were done using the small balloon on the double balloon punch. To make the oval I used the Stitched Shapes Framelits…one of my favorite sets! Lastly, I used a sentiment from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set. That set is so versatile and I have made so many cards with that set and I still haven’t used all the stamps that come in it!!
And there you have it! Lovely paper, a fun technique, and a fun birthday card…all in one! I would love to see what you do with the Garden Impressions paper! Or even tearing!
