Tear up that SU! paper!

Hello!

Tearing. Do you like to tear paper? I do for certain looks. I did my whole honeymoon section of my album with torn edges! By the end of the scrapbook retreat my fingers were so very sore!!

These are just 2 partial samples. I had color blocked my whole wedding album section so I figured I should color block my honeymoon section as well. Um, yeah…since we went on a cruise, the tearing of the edges would work great because water is never a completely flat surface. Imagine doing 23 pages of tearing EVERYTHING!! Oh, my! Yes, sore fingers for a few days after that 3 day retreat! Yikes!

This post, however, is not about my wedding/honeymoon album…that’s just the only time I have used tearing in such an extreme case. This post is to showcase a card I did for another challenge…a Tic-Tac Toe challenge with tearing. I haven’t done many of those, but I was inspired for this one. And, I am thinking I may do more, tearing that is! And see? They have sea/ocean on the same line as tearing…

This is the Tic-Tac-Toe board for Try Stampin’ On Tuesday. I used the far right column…tearing, blue, and die cut. This challenge is until July 29th, if you want to give it a go for yourself!

I also used a sketch challenge for this card from Catch the Bug Challenge Blog – Sketchy Stella…this one took me some time to figure out what I wanted to do…and it is also still running if you want to go check it out, deadline is August 1st.

So, here is my card. This DSP is called Garden Impressions and I used 3 different ones. This is one of the DSP sale packs that I told you about in my last post. Buy 3 Get 1 FREE. It is 6×6 paper, also double sided and you get 4 of each design. I used Pacific Point card stock as my base, Melon Mambo as one of the torn pieces, Daffodil Delight for the sentiment and the flame of my candle. I backed up my candle stick with Whisper White card stock to help it stand out a bit. I tore the flame out of the Daffodil Delight because flames just can’t have a straight edge, right?! The balloons were done using the small balloon on the double balloon punch. To make the oval I used the Stitched Shapes Framelits…one of my favorite sets! Lastly, I used a sentiment from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set. That set is so versatile and I have made so many cards with that set and I still haven’t used all the stamps that come in it!!

1532305445530

And there you have it! Lovely paper, a fun technique, and a fun birthday card…all in one! I would love to see what you do with the Garden Impressions paper! Or even tearing! Feel free to share in the comments, or you can find me on facebook as Junebug Creations and post your creations there! I love seeing what others do!

Blessings to you! Happy crafting!

June

‘Christmas in July?’ w/ SU!

Hello!

Yes, I am back and it hasn’t been months! Just a couple days! Time to start sharing some of what I have been working on this summer. First off, we’ll start with an oddly typical July theme…nope, not patriotic. It’s Christmas! I wasn’t sure when it started being a thing so I looked it up on Bing. I am so shocked that it is not such a recent thing! Who knew?

“Christmas in July started 84 years ago on July 24th and 25th in 1933 at a girls’ camp called Keystone Camp in Brevard, North Carolina.” (must have been a question from last year because now it would be exactly 85 years)

How weird is that? I never knew! I thought for sure it was just in my lifetime and more likely of my adult lifetime. I was wrong…and I am a-okay with that!

Anyway, I made a Christmas card with the new DSP (Designer Series Paper) from Stampin’ Up! that is on sale right now. What?! You didn’t know that Stampin’ Up! was having a DSP sale? Crazy! Although, I guess it is my fault since I haven’t been blogging…let’s remedy that!

DSP is on sale! Buy 3 Get 1 FREE! Yep, that lovely 4 letter word is back in play! You can click on the blue words now, or later, and I will leave an attachment at the bottom of this post that you can click on as well.

Back to the card…

This card layout came from a sketch challenge put on by Sketch Saturday. It really inspired me to use the Christmas paper from the DSP Sale! Actually, it screamed at me!

Christmas in July was fun and I am so in love with the paper. The paper is called Under the Mistletoe and I really felt inspired by many of the sheets in this set. You can see all the different patterns really well in this picture. So much versatility. It’s double sided and you get 2 of each sheet! This one with the bells is my favorite! I’m using this card for a class this weekend. Wanna come?

1532305723368

For the card I flip-flopped the sketch and used Real Red card stock as a base and a strip of Old Olive card stock along the left side instead of the right. I used the Stitched Shape Framelits for my circle and oval. I like using them because they give it a border and finished look. Yes, I also changed it up by using an oval instead of a circle for the sentiment, but that is okay! I need to learn to slip out-of-the-box a little more often! It’s a healthy thing to do, especially in crafting! Then I used my dauber and Old Olive ink pad to distress the edges of the sentiment oval and the Old Olive strip. I also used clear rhinestones and a red Sharpie to give them color since my son and I agreed that you really couldn’t see the clear ones very well. I love the little sparkle they gave the card. Since I was keeping the card simple, the sentiment from the Christmas Pines stamp set suited it perfectly.

It’s simple yet striking, I think. Tell me what you think! I’m truly curious to know!

On to the next card/blog…

Enjoy your day! Keep on crafting!

Blessings, June

14 Things I Love…

Hello! Happy, happy Friday!!

Here is a mini scrapbook I have been working on for Scrap4Less! I will be doing a class on it February 12th, here in Colorado Springs. You can Sign Up Here. Let me know you saw it here first and I will have a little surprise for you!

1484775654358

This book pulls out and is called a flip book because the pages flip as you pull. It is from Teresa Collins. The heart punch is from Stampin’ Up!, as well as the number stamps. They are actually retired and are called Big Deal Numbers. The letter stickers are from Sn@p. Some of the stickers used inside are from WeRMemoryKeepers. The heart banner is from a Sizzix BigZ. The paper is My Mind’s Eye, if I remember correctly. I really need to learn to write these things down before I cut things up! All these items, that are not SU!, are items sold at Scrap4Less once a month at the 2 day crop. You really should come check it out if you live in, or are visiting, Colorado Springs!

I won’t show the inside pages until after the class…I don’t want to spoil the surprise! There are 14 pages to declare your love for your spouse, child, parent…whoever you love and can describe it in 14 different ways! I made one, in the past for my husband, at a class back in Tucson. I still have it! I think it is in the Valentine’s box. If it is, I will share it with you after I get that container out of storage. It is what inspired me to create this album for a class.

Just a little FYI…because you all know I am a Stampin’ Up! demo and most of this is not SU! The supplies I use are mainly ones that Monique sells at Scrap4Less. Occasionally, I add something from Stampin’Up!, like the heart, however, it is her store and her crop, so I use her materials.

That’s it for today! Need to do more creating, so I have more to post! Staying healthy will be top priority! I trust you are all healthy!

Enjoy your day! Have fun this weekend! I know I will…I will be crafting and watching movies!

Blessings, June

Sketch = Great Page

Hello!

I have been lacking a little bit of motivation lately, so I have not posted in quite a while. Part of it is due to a double wrist injury that has aggravated my old carpel tunnel…which hurts when I craft too much. It’s hard to get motivated to craft when it hurts.

It’s been about a month since the injury and I have now chosen to do some crafting anyway and just not overdo it! Taking it slow and easy!

I haven’t scrapbooked in a while, so I thought I would create a new page from our Yellowstone trip this summer. I have 3 gift albums, plus my own to make, so I figure I should get started. Plus, I needed a class for the Scrap4Less crop coming up on the 19th, here in Colorado Springs.

I found a sketch on Pinterest…where better to get inspiration and motivation??paper-bakery-sketch-challenge-10

And turned it into…20161105_092735-1

Instead of the dots, I used a sheet from Blooms & Bliss Designer Paper Series by Stampin’ Up! I like the neutral camping colors in it! (Sahara Sand, Island Indigo, Mint Macaron) I also used a couple of camping stamps from an older Stampin’ Up! set and some letter stickers from Thicker Stickers by American Crafts for the title. For the journaling, I used strips of white cardstock. To make the banner cuts on the strips of colored cardstock (Island Indigo, Mint Macaron,  and Craft) running down behind the pictures, I used the banner punch from Stampin’ Up!…I really love how it keeps the cut even! When I used to cut it freehand, I never got it square, which bugged me most of the time! With this punch, it’s always square…or just off only if you want it that way!

I think the page came out very nicely. If I were to make any changes, I would probably distress the edges of the banner strips and the DSP. Other than that, I am pleased with it. I look forward to adding it to my album. I am also looking forward to teaching a class on turning a sketch into a scrapbook page! Come join me!

Blessings to All!

*June*
