Catch the Bug Photo Inspiration

Howdy!

Doing something a little different today…I am using a digi stamp from Catch the Bug Challenge Blog! It’s a darling stamp and I was in the mood for a change of pace. I’m not much of a colorer, so it was time to challenge myself.

The challenge is from a photo…I used some of the colors, something flying, and flowers! Here’s the photo…

I had gotten a digi stamp from them quite awhile ago, and it made me think of summer, since that is when we can plant flowers up here in Montana. Heck, with all the rain and cool weather, I have not even done a potting of flowers yet!

Here’s the cool digi stamp

flowerpots

Isn’t it so fun? I printed it on Whisper White cardstock and used my Stampin’ Blends and some Stampin’ Write Markers to color it. I happened to have all the perfect colors out of the few that I own! This was meant to be! I really like how the coloring turned out! What do you think?

1562282599335.jpg

That is all I have for you tonight! Stay tuned…tomorrow is another fun hop! See you there!

Thank you for reading and taking this crafting journey with me! It’s nice to have you along! Enjoy your Stampin’, Scrappin’, and Craftin’ journey! Please leave a comment and let me know your thoughts about this project. Feel free to CASE my projects and share them in the comments! I love to see what others create!

Blessings, June

GSF – Stamper’s Choice

21230900_10155476021810479_6509381660004074956_n

Howdy!

Can you believe it is already the 2nd month of the new year?! Wowza! It’s also that time again…the first Friday of the month and a Global Stamping Friends Blog Hop! WooHoo!! It is so fun to hop with these amazing demonstrators from around the globe! They are so inspirational!

This month the theme is Stamper’s Choice…so I chose to go with 2 #simplestamping cards! It seemed like the smartest choice since my craftroom is still a bit of a mess from the mini makeover. Stay tuned for more pictures on that this weekend!

I chose a stamp set from the Occasions Catalog called Meant To Be. I LOVE it! So versatile…we just have to love the versatility that Stampin’ Up! brings to their stamp sets!

Meant To Be Cling Stamp Set

I used Melon Mambo on Whisper White cardstock. Since Stampin’ Up! is promoting #simplestamping using paper, ink, and stamps, I wanted to give it a whirl. I am not used to being that simple in my card making, yet it was fresh, fun, and easy to do! I thought this card turned out great! Talk about simple…as in easy! I also used a favorite technique of mine called Stamping Off. You ink the stamp once and then stamp 2 or 3 times. Each time the ink gets lighter and looks like a different color, but it is just lighter shades of the original color…in this case, Melon Mambo (a favorite pink of mine!)

1548864563252.jpg

The next card I made was also a #simplestamping card. I used one of my FREE stamp sets from the Sale-A-Bration brochure called Hello Cupcake

Hello Cupcake Photopolymer Stamp Set

This was a fun card to make as well. And, yes, I used the Stamping Off technique here too! I used Whisper White as my card base again and changed the color to Rich Razzleberry for the cupcake paper which I stamped at full strength and the icing was stamped off on scratch paper and then on this card to give it a lighter and fluffier look. Crumb Cake was used for the actual cupcake that shows up between the paper and the icing after stamping off on scratch paper, and then the sentiment was Crumb Cake at full strength.

Easy-peasy card! Yummy looking, too, don’t you think?

1548864513917.jpg

I think a future post should show you how I might take these cards to the next level. I love watching Connie Stewart’s Now, Wow, or Holy Cow card videos. She is one of the Stampin’ Up! demonstrator’s that I follow on You Tube. She is very inspirational! I have all kinds of ideas running around in my head after watching her videos.

That’s all I have for you today! Back to reorganizing the craftroom. There will be a new post on that this weekend! Now on to see what Tricia chose for sharing with you! Just click the Next picture.16142532_1545314942146166_6627757169686037005_n

A Fairy Celebration

Howdy!

I’m having a lovely time subbing in that 2nd grade classroom, even with this cold. They are so sweet and behaving so wonderfully! It makes it so much easier!

In the interest of time, so that I can go crawl into bed and get a good night’s sleep to face another day of 2nd graders, I will make this fairly brief. If you have any questions about what or how I did something, please feel free to leave a comment below!

I started with a sketch from Sketch Saturday that looked like this:

Then it turned into this:

1547435198207.jpg

I actually used a new technique that I hadn’t done on a card before…I used black embossing powder to outline my stamped image and then colored it using Stampin’ Blends. I am not very good at coloring with them, but I keep giving it a whirl. I’m liking how this card turned out!

Here is my supply list:

Lastly, some Wink of Stella on her pretty wings to make them shimmer as a fairy’s wings should. Not easy to photograph, but I think you can see it well enough in this picture.

1547435291224.jpg

Inside I kept it simple, yet magical…

1547435342046.jpg

I like the idea of using the black embossing powder to help me color with the Stampin’ Blends. It looks cool, too! So, what do you think?

Time for me to sleep and heal, heal, heal! This cold needs to go away as I have plenty of ideas of what I would rather be doing! 😉

Thank you for reading and taking this crafting journey with me! It’s nice to have you along! Enjoy your Stampin’, Scrappin’, and Craftin’ journey and feel free to share and CASE with me! I love to see what others create!

Tricky card = Cool Card!

Howdy!

Yep, that is what I usually use in person vs. the “Hello, Hello” I have been using…so I’m going to use it here! It’s me…from AZ! (that’s where I grew up)

I started this tricky card with this sketch from CAS(E)this Sketch:

Then I looked over at Fab Friday and saw this awesome color challenge:

When I saw that cool sketch I thought strips of paper would be neat! Then, on the Fab Friday page I saw that Brian King had pieced paper strips in a circle with some of the colors and I thought a paper piecing strip would be good and easy. Not! The paper piecing was easy enough, it was figuring out how to get the strips onto the card without messing it all up that was tough. 🙂

1547435244012.jpg

Thank goodness for the Sizzix adhesive multipurpose sheets! Although, once I got the strips on there…how to transfer them became an issue. So, very carefully, I peeled off the backing and prayed they all stayed together while I flipped them over and put them on the card front. They did, shew!

1547435266038.jpg

And, viola! My card…

1547435385911.jpg

I used the Tranquil Tide ink for the “You are” and Highland Heather for “amazing” sentiment parts. They came from the Amazing Life stamp set. (and, no, I did not realize I used the same sentiment as Brian did until I was doing all the links…great minds and all that 🙂 ) The card front is backed on to Highland Heather cardstock. Since purple and green is my favorite color combination right now, I wanted to use it the most. Pear Pizzazz is the card front. Then Tranquil Tide, Mint Macaron, and Lemon Lime Twist fill in the other colors.

Here is the inside of the card:

1547435312811.jpg

Keeping it simple! The sentiment and flower also came from the Amazing Life stamp set. What do you think? Got any tips to make it easier? I’m all ears!

And so, after subbing all day and almost losing my voice because of this cold, it is time to hit the hay for this girl! G’nite!

Thank you for reading and taking this crafting journey with me! It’s nice to have you along! Enjoy your Stampin’, Scrappin’, and Craftin’ journey and feel free to share and CASE with me! I love to see what others create!

Blessings, June

Meant To Be

Hello, Hello!

I have been a card making fool the past few days! Time to get them all blogged and entered into their respective challenges! Then I need sleep! My scratchy throat is a warning that I haven’t slept as much as I should…and I substitute all week in a 2nd grade classroom, so sleep is a priority this week!

It’s now time for another sketch from CAS Colours &Sketches! Here is the sketch:

For this sketch, I knew I wanted to use the Meant To Be stamp set that is in the Occasions Catalog, along with the Be Mine Stitched Framelits! What an amazing set! I have used a few times already! It’s bundled and that means it’s 10% off! Gotta love it and have it! Click on the picture and it will take you right to the bundle! Or you can click on anything in blue and it will take you right to that item as well! Easy-peasy!

Meant To Be Cling Bundle

After the stamp set, I needed to figure out the colors. I chose Lovely Lipstick, a current In Color 2018-2020, Whisper White, and Powder Pink, also an In Color 2017-2019.

Here’s my card and then an explanation of how it came together…

1547178373568.jpg

I used the Lovely  Lipstick cardstock for the card base, stamped hearts, and cloud of hearts using a framelit. I used Whisper White cardstock for my front layer and the smaller rectangle. Then Powder Pink cardstock for the frame of the small rectangle. Those Rectangle Stitched Framelits are really versatile!

Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies

I also used Tuxedo Black ink for the sentiment, which is actually from the Part of My Story stamp set out of the Sale-A-Bration brochure and is FREE with an order of $50 or more. Gotta Love FREE! Part Of My Story Cling Stamp Set

Overall, I am happy with this card and really like the sketch! If I had more time tonight, I would run down to the Creation Cave (new name for my craft space) and make one of these in a Christmas card since I have vowed to make Christmas cards all year long instead of Nov/Dec crush time! Alas, it is almost bedtime and I have full days of subbing all week…maybe next sketch!

That’s it for today! Thank you for reading and taking this crafting journey with me! It’s nice to have you along! Enjoy your Stampin’, Scrappin’, and Craftin’ journey and feel free to share and CASE with me! I love to see what others create!

Blessings, June

Snowflakes Abound!

Hello, Hello!

It’s that time of year when I start thinking about snow! We live in Whitefish, Montana and when you live here you have to pick a winter hobby…besides staying inside crafting all the time, which would suite me, but not my guys! 😉

We chose snowmobiling! And this year we are all set with avalanche gear (of which I trust we NEVER have to use!) Now we wait for snow! It’s late this year, see my bare backyard?! I thought maybe if I start making snowy cards, it would start snowing…you think?

MVIMG_20181123_151703

And, since the…

10.01.18_SHAREABLE_Q4_OUT_OF_PUB_ENG

promotion is still going on until November 30th…I figured now was as good a time as any to play with snowflakes! In my last post, I was playing with the Happiness Surrounds stamp set that is quite versatile…it’s not just for Christmas, which is why I bought it!

For this new card I used the snowflake thinlits dies to make all my snowflakes with Whisper White cardstock.

Snowfall Thinlits Dies

Then I brought out an old stamp set, that I haven’t even used yet (I got it when we moved and had no time to play with it) called Santa Stache! It is so darned cute! I plan on using this one for a couple cards this year. My hubster has a ‘stache almost like this and the beard to go with it!

MVIMG_20181126_164020

Oh, and before I get into details about the card…EVERYTHING I used, except the stamp set, Big Shot, and snowflakes IS ON SALE 10% OFF UNTIL MIDNIGHT WEDNESDAY 11/28. Click on the blue words and they will take you to my store. The snowflakes will not be sold after the 30th (Friday) of November. Don’t hesitate if you like what you see!

Together with Shaded Spruce cardstock for a base, Cherry Cobbler ink for the inside sentiment and distressing, Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blends for coloring the hat, Dashing Along DSP for the triangle swatch of paper, and Whisper White cardstock for the rest, this is the card that I came up with:

1543273699738

First I ran the thinlits through the Big Shot using the Precision Base plate, which is really really good for detailed dies like the snowflakes! Then I just dropped the snowflakes on the card to see what would look good. Once I made up my mind on the flow of the flakes, I had to glue them…I used the Tombo Liquid Glue and my silicone mat. Later I remembered that I have the Fine-Tip glue pen and would have made less mess had I used it! *sigh*

Then I stamped the Santa in Tuxedo Black Momento Ink on Whisper White cardstock and fussy cut using snips. I had already run the mustache through the Big Shot when I did the snowflakes. Why they didn’t do a framelit for the heads of this set when they did the mustache, I have no idea. At least it was not too detailed, so it was easy to fussy cut.

Usually I leave a small white border when I cut images out, just like the thinlits do, but this time I wanted the black edge. If I goof and don’t get all the white off or cut a little on the inside, then I use my Stampin’ Write black marker to “fix/hide” my errors.

I used dimensionals on the Santa and the sentiment to raise it up off the snowflakes. Also on the ‘stache to raise it off the face. I used a swatch of the Dashing Along DSP just to give it a pop of color. The sentiment on the outside and inside layer are distressed in Cherry Cobbler ink using my trusty sponge quarter. I also used the other sentiment from the set for the inside and it is stamped in the Cherry Cobbler. Love that deep red! Then I took the leaf stamp from the Happiness Surrounds stamp set and, using my Shaded Spruce ink pad, I stamped it 3 times without reinking. That’s a favorite technique of mine! Then I put adhesive on the back of the cardstock and stuck it inside the card.

1543273665430

So, one last time. Here is my card. What do you think? Cute, huh? Love the 2 sentiments using “stache!” If you don’t believe me about my hubster, you can check out his ‘stache and beard in this previous post Here.

1543273699738

Blessings, June

SU! Holiday Card Swap #3

Hello! Happy Sunday!

I trust you are all doing well today and having a relaxing day! It’s a wonderful day to be alive!

Yes, I am on a roll and on a mission to get completely caught up with all my bogging of current and past (not too far back) projects!

This is another card I made for the card swap using the Still Night stamp set and thinlits! Christmas! I had fun making this one! I did some more masking for this card! However, this time I did have the thinlits to go with this set and also discovered that maybe fussy-cutting masks is a must. “What?!?” You say. Yes, I did just type that. You’ll see in a moment why I am thinking that fussy cutting is better than using the thinlits!

I started with my prototype and ended with a different card. Actually, a couple different cards. This card evolved into the cards I made for the swap vs the card I started with. There are rules for the swaps. We need 3 layers. 1 base + 1 full 2nd layer + a 3rd layer of some sort. We also need embellishments.

Here was my prototype…

Real Red cardstock for the base, cut at 4 ¼” x 11” and scored at 5 ¼” with an inch cut off the front of the card so that the Under the Mistletoe DSP shows at the bottom.

Here were my 2 alternates that came about because I needed that full 2nd layer to be able to use it for the swap.

(If I didn’t follow the rules, I would not be invited for other swaps and I would get my cards back. I know this sounds harsh and at first, I had the same reaction, however, when everyone follows the rules it just works!)

I chose the one on the left to use for the swap. Which one would you choose??

In the end, I actually prefer the one I chose for the swap best. I didn’t choose the one with the Old Olive card stock inside because I figured that attempting to get that circle in the right spot each time would be tough. It was easiesr to just trim the Real Red base down to 4” x  5 1/4″ and make the Garden Green card stock 4 ¼” x 5 ½” to back it up. That gave me my 2 full layers. Then the circle with the owl counted as my 3rd layer.

I ended up cutting, with my trimmer, the Real Red at 4″ x 9 3/8″ and scoring at 4 1/8″ so that I had a larger piece as a left over to use elsewhere versus having a 1″ small pieces. I also saved all the red circles to use for other cards and the white paper with the circles cut out as well. I always attempt to use as much of the leftovers on other projects as I can.  I do not like to waste paper so I keep all scraps. Many scraps get used and I continue to challenge myself to use more of what I have. The ones I use the most are the white scrap strips…they get used for journaling in my scrapbooking!

The circle was cut using the 3 inch Stitched Framelits. I really like these framelits and how they have that extra framed edge that looks like stitching!

The masking came about so that I could stamp the owl onto the branch. There was some overlapping. As I said in the last blog post, masking allows you to give dimension to your stamping and create an overlapping of objects. In that case, it was the leaves. In this one, it was to have the owl in the forefront on the branch. I stamped the owl first using a Sahara Sand marker for the chest feathers and under the eyes. Then I used Soft Suede marker for the back feathers, feet, and the eyes. After stamping, I laid the mask over the owl and stamped the branch in Early Espresso over it. Now, as you can see, the lines don’t meet up because the mask was created with the thinlits on the Big Shot and are a bit larger than the stamped image. To make up for that I had to use my Early Espresso marker to attach the lines and make it all look blended. Not an easy feat and I had many re-dos! Another rule for the swap is clean stamping! Which I agree with wholeheartedly! That includes making sure that the branch fell where it was supposed to and that my “attaching” was smooth and looked like part of the branch that was missing! Hence, in the future, masks will be fussy-cut close to the stamped image so that there is not so much space! Although I may use the thinlit first and trim closer to the stamped image to help the fussy-cutting go faster. Now you understand!

I used Old Olive and Garden Green for the pine needles and Rhinestones for my embellishment. I also added a Garden Green one inside next to the sentiment.

The Under the Mistletoe DSP was used for the bottom strip of the card. I definitely need to use more of this paper!

That’s it! What do you think? Which version of the card do you like best?? Leave a comment below and let me know. I am truly curious! It was a tough choice…in the end, time was the biggest factor once again.

Thank you for reading and taking this crafting journey with me! It’s nice to have you along!

Enjoy your Stampin’, Scrappin’, and Craftin’ journey and feel free to share with me!

Blessings, June
