Sketch + Colors = Mom?

Howdy!

Was on a good creative roll this weekend and wanted to get the cards blogged before the challenges run out…seems to happen a bit to me lately!

So, here is the color combo from Fab Friday and the sketch from Sketch Saturday. They were some great inspiration for this card!

And here is my creation using these 2 wonderful inspirations!
1553993309064.jpg
I used Wink of Stella on the wreath and the bow to give it a little more pizzazz…who doesn’t love a little sparkle, right? Here is a closer look…
Over all, I love the bright springy colors on this card! I am sure my Mother-in-Law will too!

Happy Tails are Meant to Be!

Howdy!

How are you all today?! I am on my first day of Spring Break and happy for it! What better way to start it than telling you about this cute card I came up with to enter into the Sketch Saturday Challenge? I have fun with sketches and this one turned out cute!

Here is the sketch:

I figured I would change it up a bit and instead of going with circles, I went with a heart and puppy dog! Here is mine:

1553208383820.jpg

And, since I am into different ways of folding cards lately…I went with a new fun one that I learned…it’s a double door kind of fold. First card I made I had the heart straight up, half on one side, half on the other. Then at my card class this week, Crystal said she was going wonky and I really liked that idea…so I went with a wonky heart too! I like this one better!

Materials used for this card are:

Here are 2 pictures of how it looks when you open it:

I left the inside blank so that I can write whatever to the person who gets the card. I may choose to put Very Vanilla cardstock inside to make writing easier because the inside is textured as well. Oh…when you use the paw and bone to stamp all over the front…stamp before you emboss…it’s easier! Just saying because I forgot to do it that way. 😉

Thank you for reading and taking this crafting journey with me! It’s nice to have you along! Enjoy your Stampin’, Scrappin’, and Craftin’ journey and feel free to share and CASE with me! I love to see what others create!

Blessings, June

A Fairy Celebration

Howdy!

I’m having a lovely time subbing in that 2nd grade classroom, even with this cold. They are so sweet and behaving so wonderfully! It makes it so much easier!

In the interest of time, so that I can go crawl into bed and get a good night’s sleep to face another day of 2nd graders, I will make this fairly brief. If you have any questions about what or how I did something, please feel free to leave a comment below!

I started with a sketch from Sketch Saturday that looked like this:

Then it turned into this:

1547435198207.jpg

I actually used a new technique that I hadn’t done on a card before…I used black embossing powder to outline my stamped image and then colored it using Stampin’ Blends. I am not very good at coloring with them, but I keep giving it a whirl. I’m liking how this card turned out!

Here is my supply list:

Lastly, some Wink of Stella on her pretty wings to make them shimmer as a fairy’s wings should. Not easy to photograph, but I think you can see it well enough in this picture.

1547435291224.jpg

Inside I kept it simple, yet magical…

1547435342046.jpg

I like the idea of using the black embossing powder to help me color with the Stampin’ Blends. It looks cool, too! So, what do you think?

Time for me to sleep and heal, heal, heal! This cold needs to go away as I have plenty of ideas of what I would rather be doing! 😉

Thank you for reading and taking this crafting journey with me! It’s nice to have you along! Enjoy your Stampin’, Scrappin’, and Craftin’ journey and feel free to share and CASE with me! I love to see what others create!

Blessings, June

An Animal Outing Double Challenge

Hello, Hello!

I recently got this great stamp set during the Online Extravaganza called Animal Outing. It is so adorable and also comes with the Animal Friends Thinlit dies as a bundle…yep, gotta love Bundles! (click on the picture if you gotta have it, too!)

Animal Outing Clear-Mount Bundle

I have been wanting to make a card using this set and just wasn’t getting a color combo idea in my head, so off to The Color Throwdown Challenge site, I went! And they had this great color combo that I probably wouldn’t have thought of myself!

For my colors I used So Saffron, Old Olive, and Basic Black, plus I needed Smokey Slate (you’ll see why).

Then, I figured I needed a sketch to really help my creative juices roll, so I went to CAS(E) this Sketch, another favorite challenge blog of mine, and found this lovely sketch:

And then the creative juices started pouring out of my head and I came up with this card that I think is so stinking cute!!

1546837428771.jpg

I ended up turning it on it’s side and then it just came together and I love it! What do you think? Isn’t that rhino a cutie?

For the card base and branches I used Old Olive cardstock. I used Versamark for the background inking of the branches. So Saffron cardstock for the sentiment portion and the bird on the rhino’s horn. Then I used Basic Black cardstock for the Stitched Cirlce Framelit, another regularly used and favorite framelit set! Plus, I used Tuxedo Black ink for the distressing around the card base, smudging of the sentiment piece, and for the sentiment itself. Then I added Smokey Slate cardstock for the rhino cutout and Basic Gray ink for the rhino image.

Well? Let me know what you think of this card! I haven’t done a sentiment on the inside yet because I am thinking of making it a Valentine’s card…the sentiment makes me think of that…we’ll see! Oh, and speaking of which…this stamp set will coordinate with the upcoming Paper Pumpkin kit for January…so subscribe now and don’t miss out! More info below so check it out!!

That’s it for now. Thank you for reading and taking this crafting journey with me! It’s nice to have you along! Enjoy your Stampin’, Scrappin’, and Craftin’ journey and feel free to share and CASE with me! I love to see what others create!

SU! Card Swap – Card #1

Hello out there in internet world!

Yes, I have been slacking in the blogging department. It is really something I need to focus on! School started here in Montana and I had wished for 2 weeks of ‘Me Time’ before starting to substitute and only got 2 Days!! Can you believe it? I was covering teachers for meetings and for testing. I have subbed everyday since! Yikes!

In the meantime, I had signed up for a Card Swap using products from the new Holiday catalog or the Annual catalog. I found a stamp set in the Holiday Catalog called Still Night bundled with thinlits and I am challenging myself to do all four cards using this set.

Still Night Clear-Mount Bundle

That is really a challenge for me!! One I put upon myself, though, and I am loving it! It started as only with this stamp set, but then I figured I needed to be able to use a couple other stamp sets to cover all my categories. “Sending warm wishes” just was not going to work as a Halloween sentiment! 😉

Of course, before I got my stamp set ordered and delivered I had all kinds of ideas in my head about what I would do for my cards! I had signed up for these 4 categories:

Halloween (this stamp set screams it!)

Christmas (not too big a stretch with the snowflakes, branches, and pine needles, right?)

Grateful/Thankful or Thank you (I’m sure, I can think of something)

Big Shot show case (lots of things to run through a big shot and use as a focal point on a card, right?)

Yeah, so then it took me awhile to order, receive, and sit down with the set and make cards…by that time…they (ideas) had all slipped right out of my head and it was blank! Yep, blank! I never sketched out any of my ideas and I came up empty when I finally made the time to sit down and play!! OH< NO!! I have a deadline here folks! My 44 cards (11 of each category) need to be in the mail by the 14th, at the latest, to reach the other side of the country by the 20th of September! Yes, I am pushing the limits here, especially with having the sub jobs start so soon and only 3 of 4 prototypes done!!

So, what do you do when you go blank? You turn to Pinterest! There was not a thing on there with this set! Can you believe it?? I searched the stamp set name and got all the Bethlehem cards, that stamp set isn’t even called Still Night, it’s called Night in Bethlehem

Night In Bethlehem Clear-Mount Stamp Set

Um, that is not the same stamp set! Right?! I even put ‘Still Night with owl’ and ‘owl cards’ came up empty handed! That tells me, I need to make sure these four cards get to Pinterest just in case anyone else wants some ideas for this set!

I began to play around with the stamp set and thinlits and then ideas started to roll around again in my head. I made the Halloween card since that one had not completely left my brain…just partially. I’ll tell you about that one in another post.

Then I figured I would continue in season/theme order…Grateful/Thankful or Thank you card…hmmm…what ever was I going to do with that? There were no leaves in this set, so I pulled out my Colorful Seasons set (wishing now that I had also bought the thinlits as well! Darn it!)

Colorful Seasons Photopolymer Stamp SetSeasonal Layers Thinlits Dies

So, now I have 2 stamps sets…what the heck am I going to do with them and not make the card look the same as the any of the others I had been sketching out (as ideas came to me). This card had no sketches! Total blank!

When Pinterest can’t help me, the next thing I do when I am stumped and drawing a blank is to go to my favorite challenge blogs! They provide inspiration and motivation! And, happily, after deleting a number of them that have closed…I found inspiration in the form of a sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch! CASE stands for Copy And Share Everything in the Stampin’ Up! world..and maybe elsewhere, but I learned of it from SU!. CAS means Clean and Simple which has a couple “rules,” such as, 1 main focal point, lots of open space, minimal layers, and minimal embellishments. There are some other CAS challenge blogs that I like as well. I think (but am not 100% sure) that CAS(E) is a combo of these 2 ideas with a sketch thrown in. Works for me! And my card!

I also loved the fact that Brian King created this sketch and he is an amazing Stampin’ Up! demonstrator!

Here is my take on this sketch!

1536188607661

I was pleased with how it turned out! What do you think? I can take it! Be honest!

For the Card Swap, I had to have a base + 2 layers and embellishments. It’s kind of hard to see here, but there are some of the Basic Adhesive Backed Sequins on there as well in the diagonal leaf design.

For this card I used Soft Suede cardstock as my base cut 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and scored in the middle at 4 1/4 inches.

2nd layer is Very Vanilla cardstock cut at 5 1/2″ x 4″. The diagonal was made using painters tape on each side and measures about 1 5/8″ wide. I used the leaves form the Colorful Seasons stamp set and made a mask of the large leaf and the small leaf, hence the wishing I had gotten the thinlits! No fussy cutting would have needed to happen. (Note to self: buy thinlits when there are some with any stamp set I buy!!) The ink colors I used for the leaves are Real Red, Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie, Grapefruit Grove, and Mossy Meadow. I know, now you want more pictures of how I did it and maybe more explanation. I’m thinking in a later post will go more into detail and I will make more pictures as I do the rest of the cards. This is only my prototype! I have 11 of these babies to make! I’ll be a busy girl this weekend, let me tell you! I will make sure to take pictures of all my steps and then post about it again! I am making a note right now! Done!

I distressed, using a dauber and Pumpkin Pie ink pad the edges of this Very Vanilla cardstock to help frame it. Yes, I do like doing that on almost all my cards, thank you for noticing! 😉

The owl is cut using the Big Shot and thinlit from a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock and is stamped with Soft Suede ink. The branch is cut from Soft Suede cardstock. No stamping on the branch. The branch stamp and the thinlit branch do not match.

Inside my card I used Very Vanilla cardstock cut at 5 1/4″ x 4″ and also distressed (edged) in Pumpkin Pie. Then I used part of the larger leaf in Pumpkin Pie and then Cajun Craze for the spines of the leaf. Mossy Meadow is the color of the little wispies (not sure what to call them…they made me think of all the white wispy seeds that seem to be floating around on the breeze in the fall here). The sentiment is stamped in Cajun Craze ink and from one of the new stamp sets called Love What You Do. See, I needed a 3rd stamp set for this card. But, that is actually a good thing for me since I am not usually one to mix up stamp sets! This was turning into a mega challenge of using one stamp set on all 4 cards, as well as mixing up stamp sets! WooHoo! I am out of the box on this one!!

1536188670951

Other than going over in detail how I made that diagonal falling leave strip, I think I have told you all about my card. I am happy to enter it into challenges and am very thankful for the inspiration from Brian King and the folks over at CAS(E) this Sketch!

Until next time!

Happy stampin’, scrappiin’, and craftin’!!

Blessings, June

Aloha R&R

Hello, All!

We made an impromptu camping trip to Yellowstone over the weekend and had a blast! It did require some prep time, hence the lack of posts again. School starts tomorrow, so I will have more time for almost a week before I start substituting again. I am already booked 3 days next week. My plan is that any days that I am not subbing, I will be working on Stampin’ Up! as well as scrapbooking and therefore, blogging!

Right now I am not feeling so great, but I really wanted to get this blog post in for this challenge because I have worked on it 3 times! I sat down and worked on it 2 other times and just didn’t get inspired or was just not happy with what was coming together on this page. So this will be quick and straight to the point because earlier, when I sat down to work on this page, it just flowed right out of me and I was feeling pretty confident and happy with the results! 3’s a charm, right?!

This is one of the pages from my Dad’s Life Album. Not everything in it is SU!, but that is ok. I have tons of scrapbooking stuff that I have had long before I even heard about SU!.

The challenge is August Blend-A-Sketch Challenge for Scrap Our Stash. I think this is the first time I have entered something with them since I haven’t really scrapbooked much since leaving Tucson in 2015.

Here is the sketch:

And here is my scrapbook page:

1535502804687

So, I needed to blend these 2 sketches together and use arrows.

I used the diagonal from the left sketch and did some tearing for my left corner and then placed the title on top of the pictures.

I used the stacking of the photos and the journaling box on the side as well as the rest of my title from the sketch on the right.

My arrows go across the top and along the right side of the page.

What do you think? I am pleased with how it turned out!

Enjoy the rest of your evening! I am headed upstairs to lay down and get rid of this nausea. Until next time…

Happy crafting!

Blessings, June

Masculine SU! Birthday card

Hello! Happy Saturday night!

I trust your summer is going great! Ours is about to wind down! We have one more trip, a camping trip, that we are throwing in at the end of the summer. Not ideal, but with all the smoke from the fires, the friends that were going to come visit asked us to meet them in Yellowstone instead…so off we go next weekend. Getting home 2 days before school starts is going to be interesting! This next week will be chocked full of prep for school and trip! WooHoo!

In the meantime…I am alone! Ahh, that is a wonderful thing and hasn’t happened as often as I thought it would this summer. Having to “fight” for the computer with my son (yes, I am the parent) has been an ongoing thing this summer. It hasn’t really been a fight as much as him asking if he can play Fortnite (groan!) on the desktop when I was going to do some blogging…I gave in sometimes, not always and yet when I was on the computer I got distracted by catching up on my facebook page and posting and reading other’s and emails and then I didn’t get to blog. TODAY, I am blogging! And then getting back to creating because I have 8 hours to myself! WooHoo! I am 3 hours into it and have gotten all caught up with emails and fb (https://www.facebook.com/JunebugCreations29/) posts and still have 5 hours, or more of my time for blogging and crafting! YAY! Let’s see how much I can get done!

This is a post that should have been done last month and kept getting put off. It was a challenge and I forgot about the deadline and didn’t get it entered. I still want to share it though, because I really like how the card turned out!

It was for the CAS(E) this Sketch  challenge blog, which stands for ‘Clean And Simple,’ which is refreshing to do when so many others pile tons of stuff on their cards. How do they send them like that? Sometimes I just need to go simple again and hit my refresh button.

Here is the sketch:

And here is my card:

1532570350405

I used the Wood Textures 6×6 DSP for a balloon and for the word Birthday. The Birthday was from the Happy Birthday Thinlits and I just cut the happy off and used a happy from one of my Paper Pumpkin (PP) kits. I was going to use the letters from the Make a Difference stamp set, but they didn’t have a double p. They have double b, e, f, g, l, s, t, but no p. So, I dug in my stamp case of PP sets. It made me think that maybe I needed to invest in the Labeler Alphabet or maybe the Pick A Pennant (which has 2 P’s) stamp sets. Then I wouldn’t have to go to PP sets. Although, then I get more usage from my PP sets and that is not such a bad thing, right?! I just needed something small and the majority of my alphabet stamp sets are all large, even the retired stuff, because I bought them with scrapbooking in mind.

The card base is Very Vanilla and is cut at 8.5 x 5.5 inches and scored at 4.25 inches. A standard A2 card. The Crumb Cake is used for the background and is cut at 4 x 5.25 inches and distressed with Soft Suede ink. I used a dauber to do that part. I love doing the distressing on some of these cards. Especially with lighter colors. It just gives it a finished framed look in my opinion. What do you think of distressing? Do you use it much?

The other 2 balloons are in Night of Navy and Cherry Cobbler – 2 of the best colors Stampin’ Up! has…also my opinion! 🙂 Oh, and the balloons were made with the Balloon Bouquet punch! Another brilliant punch because cutting out balloons is not easy!

I adhered the balloons first and then drew the “strings” with a Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker. They write so beautifully and smooth! Been using them in my Dad’s Life Album (more on that later),

So, there you have it! A masculine card that was quick and simple in the making…not in the blogging. haha…

Feel free to CASE it (Copy And Share Everything) if you want!

Until the next post…Happy Crafting!

Blessings, June
